4:3 If Torromow Never Came

Published by under Uncategorized

If tomorrow never came

My fish would never get fed

My car would never be filled with gas

My refrigerator light would never turn on

My alarm clock would not wake me up

My ukulele would be never be strummed

My dog would never be walked

My dryer wouldn’t make that droning noise

My bed would never be made

If tomorrow never came

Your dances would never be danced

Your songs would never be sung

Your job would never be done

Your eyes would never see me

Your perfume would not smell

Your music would not play

Your shoes would never be tied

Your touch would not be felt

If tomorrow never came

We would never take that long walk

We would never bake that cake

We would never paint that picture

We would never touch the sky

We would never take that trip

We would never look out our window

We would never see those sights

We would never be together

If the tomorrow never came

Surely the darkness would set in

For when the devils are at peace

A silence will put the world in its place

And all will be good and well.

This is one of my free posts. I consider this an explanation of everything being ok. I think that even if all of these things never happened again it would be ok, because all would be at peace, and an overwhelming serenity would be set. If that makes any sense that I amaze even myself. Ha. I stole a line from Christopher Smart: “And when the devils are at peace…” He tries to rely on serenity to relay an ideal peace and harmony. It’s kind of funny how silence creates the ultimate harmony.

4:2 College?

Published by under Uncategorized

So yea i guess it’s about time I do “this blog.” I’ve been thinking lately about colleges and where I want to go. At first it was without a doubt Loyola in New Orleans. That’s where my dad went and got his undergraduate degree in premed. But lately I’ve been thinking of some different places. I want to go into business and possibly hone in on marketing and eventually get my MBA. My new number one choice right now is Appalachian State in Boone, NC. I love this school for so many reasons. One being that I know that its business programs is one of the best among state schools. Another reason I love it so much is that I hike in those mountains every summer for a month and I’m deeply infatuated with them. They are by far the most serene thing I have ever seen. Also I just obtained my new dog, Jeffery, which is a husky and he would love the snowy mountains soooo much. That’s all I have for now. Sorry these are late. I’ll do better next time.

4:2 The Franklin’s Tale

Published by under Uncategorized

So I had the Franklin’s Tale. It was interesting.  I had assumed that the tale would all be first peson and be about the character’s venture and endevours, yet the Franklin’s story was a fictional short story about these three people only related by love. Basically Dorigen and Arveragus got married and then Arveragus and had to leave for England to serve and aquire fame. Because of this Dorigen became very sad, so her friends took her to a party and she met this guy, Aurelius. He was really hot and sang and danced much better than all the other guys. He was interested in her yet she was very loyal to Arveragus. He vowed to do anything in order to win her love. She said to move the rocks that she was afraid would harm her husband when he returned. Aurelius decided to go to a sorceror who claimed he could do it. Then he moved the rocks. And Dorigen was devestated. She was happy that her husband could get home safely but she was sad because she had to love Aurelius now. Her husband finally returned and learned of the situation. He said to be with Aurelius and honor the deal for that is the noble thing to do, but when Aurelius saw their true love he released Dorigen from her promise so she and Arveragus could live an dlove happily.

For our project our group is doing a number of smaller things. Such as: a number of charts, an in depth sock puppet show, an informative powerpoint, a comtemporary interpretation of the entire story and finally a game show presentation. Should be an interesting process.

4:1 JEFFERY!

Published by under Uncategorized

So I just got a new puppy. Yes a new puppy. We found my new puppy about a week and a half ago on the side f the road in my neighborhood. His name is Jeffery and he is a Siberian Husky. I’m told it is incredibly unlikely to find that kind of dog, but alas my good karma has caught up with me and I own the cutest puppy in town. I would’ve attached a picture if school would let me into facebook or if I could email it to myself from my phone, but alas you will have to visualize Jeffery for now. He has one bright blue eye and one half dark blue half brown eye. The doctor said that was normalish… I said ok. He has grey fur on top with white tips and full white fur on bottom. Apparently he’s only nine weeks so his actual coat and teeth haven’t come in yet. He’s not all fun and games though. Jeffery is really good at doing three things: biting, pooing, and ripping anything that he can fit into his mouth in to tiny tiny pieces.

I’ve that I might want to take him with me to college depending on where I’m going. If I end up going to Loyola, which is one of my top choices, he will not be coming with me. New Orleans is much too urban and hot for a Husky. But, on the other hand, if I got into my other top choice, App State, he would defiantly be accompanying me. That kind of dog is perfect for the snowy blue ridge mountains of NC.
Ok, theres my puppy update. Peace

4:1 Irish Blog

Published by under Uncategorized

So in the aftermath of St. Patrick’s Day, I chose Samuel Beckett as my Irish author. He was born in Foxrock, Dublin, Ireland on the 13th of April, 1906. He went to Trinity university in Dublin and studied English, Italian, and French. In 1929 he published his first work, “Dante…Bruno. Vico..Joyce”. In 1940 Beckett joined the French Resistance during WWII. He was almost caught by the Germans, yet escaped. In regard to his writing, Beckett is considered to be one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. He wrote his best towards the end of the Modern era and contributed also to the beginning of the Post-Modern era. His minimalist writing style, that is dramatic and avant-garde, is closely related to that of James Joyce. (When Beckett was a student he was the assistant to Joyce.)

The work I chose to talk about is “How It Is,” a novel written by Beckett in 1961. The basic plot summary is that the narrator is crawling through never ending mud. The story itself is made up of a massive monologue that the narrator is having with himself regarding his life and how he lived. The book is an inferred allusion to a part of Dante’s Inferno, which is a characteristic of Modern and Post-Modern writing.
Trying to get back on track with my blogs… step one done.

British news coloumn (3:2)

Published by under Uncategorized

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jan/26/new-body-scanners-heathrow

So this article is about how the airline passengers that travel through heathrow airport in London, UK will not have the option of refusing a full body pat or search after setting off the full body scanner. The author stated that unlike the UK the US does offer the option. I think that from a critiquing standpoint, that this is a very straight orward article that offers a well expressed point and provides blunt information. It’s not very opionated I dont think. It is more just reporting the news.

I think that the US would have serious issues with having mandated full body searches. The American people, although confused about what it actually means, are firm supporters of “freedom.” In the sense that if something is happening that they dont want to happen they can stop it by voting or screaming of whatever the US people are good at doing.

Free Post (3:2)

Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. I ask myself whether effort really ever pays off. If when a person starts a task or endeavor, does he really know what the end will bring or if your sacrifices in order to get will suffice. Are we not motivated by what we think the end result will be? To what degree should we be disenchanted when we eventually find out we wasted our time.

Car enthusisists spend large ammounts of money and take hours out days purchasing and installing new parts. He hopes these will make his car sound better, go faster, and look nicer, yet it takes only minutes after the driving down the street to realize that there are police and speed limits. Not to mention that car that’s just a little bit faster than yours.

This example may not be completely commonplace to all readers, let’s use one more. Imagine a student who studies for a quiz relentlessly in hopes of saving his decrepit average. After a period that seems long enough he convinces himself that he is ready… and he is. He knows just enough to justify preparation and readiness. The test begins and he’s told that the time limit is considerably smaller than originally intended. This causes him to fail. So in the end are efforts for outcomes that are conditional and indefinite. I think one must way the risk to result ratio. Some times it just really sucks.

Frankenstein: Letter 2

Published by under Uncategorized

Dear Ian,

So yea this story line keeps getting weirder. So from what I can gather Mr. Monster ends up in this little thing by this cottage. And observes Felix and Agatha. I think it’s kind of interesting that he realizes they are sad due to they’re poverty and because of his realization he stops stealing their food. This, to me, shows how his monstrousness (yea I just made a new word) is only skin deep. But I really thought it was sad that as he observes society, he grows more lonely. Like i mean you can’t miss what you don’t have, but in a sense he’s envious. He just wants a sense or normalcy, and that is the one thing he’ll never have. :(

OKOKOK when Safie came into the picture that’s when I started to get confused. It was like randomly he was sad then once this Safie chick came along everything got a whole bunch better. (Although it’s funny because in hindsight, she was tied to the main reason Felix and Agatha were so sad.) She was described as vastly beautiful and Felix was “ravished with delight” (82) but I was just another wrench in the plot to me.
Now that I think about it this is the 3rd or fourth story line in this book so far.
1) Robert Walton’s
2) Dr Frankenstein’s
3) The monster’s
and say that These cottage people have their own too,so…
4) Felix, Agatha, and Safie.

This is getting a little to layered for me.

Until my next letter

Frankenstein: Letter 1

Published by under Uncategorized

Dear Ian,

So this book completely changed what I thought I knew about Frankenstein. I’ll have to admit the letters in the beginning from Walton were super boring, but they were at the same time very easy to understand. I was kind of confused about how the letters actually tied into the Frankenstein story until the very end when Frankenstein, at that point the rescuee, introduced that he was about to tell his story. I thought that was a pretty creative way to start the book. I know now the beginning chapter describing his early etc were necessary to properly describe the characters, but as I was reading them I was kind of bored. I took a while for me to get into the book. Was it like that for you too?

Frankenstein’s health was story driving to a point but it started to be like every time something negative happened he got sick. That was kind of easy to pick out i think. Although I thought it was funny and ironic that Frankenstein, the sickly man he is, studied anatomy. You’d think that he would know something about why he was so sick etc.

The actual monster surprised me. The depiction in this book basically refute most of the things I thought I knew before. I mean at first he seemed to be the crazy monster that I had thought him to be, with the murder and the pestilence towards Frankenstein etc, but you come to find out that he, to a point is sophisticated. I had to make sure I was reading the right book, because I wasn’t really expecting that. I mean what did you think about that? Like did kind of expect it, or were you like me and totally like startled?

Until me next letter

Free Post: I’ve Been Looking

Published by under Uncategorized

I
Have that feeling again
I
Have lost something
I
Know where it is
Or at least where it should be
It is as if it had been put somewhere
I
Look back and it is missing
Or it had been taken
Or it was never actually there
Although these thoughts of “what if” run free
I
Persist in
My
Efforts to find it
I
Check places that it may be
Places that it should have been set
Places that it may be hiding under
Places that seem natural and some unnatural
Places that it would never be
I
persist in
My
Efforts to find it

Cluttered thoughts begin to sprawl
Thoughts that make no sense
Thoughts that prompt
Me
To walk in circles
To look in my piggy bank
To check my shoes
To question it all
I
Retrace my steps
Steps that may or may not have been taken
Steps that lead in directions untraveled
Steps that become narrow and blurred
I
Begin to ask what the real value of it amounts to
If it is really worth as much time as it has been given
If it is worth much more than time
If time is what it deserves
I
Persist in
My
Efforts to find it

Although it has not been found
Neither have
I
Although the search continues
so do
I
Although the unknown is still unknown
The known still exists
I
Still exist

I

Persist in

My

Efforts to find

Me
